Miami Continues to Roll at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –
The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami men’s tennis team took all six singles matches played in straight sets while sweeping each of the three doubles matches played against in-state foe Stetson Saturday at the second day of competition of the 2005 Hurricane Invitational at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
In singles action, junior Josh Cohen – who is ranked 20th nationally in singles – celebrated his 21st birthday with a win over Eddie Majcher with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win.
Miami’s 26th-ranked junior Luigi D’Agord edged out Marcus Echtler of Stetson, 6-2, 7-5, while 62nd-ranked senior Tim Krebs fended off Sergei Boulanov, 6-2, 6-2. Senior John Hoyes downed Trevor Bach, 6-3, 6-1, sophomore Vivek Subramanian defeated Peter Dzuba, 6-2, 6-2 and 100th-ranked senior Eric Hechtman knocked off Birger Soiland, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, Hechtman and D’Agord downed the Hatters’ Echtler and Boulanov, 8-5, Subramanian and Krebs defeated Majcher and Bach, 8-1, and Hoyes and junior P.J. Passalacqua upended Dzuba and Soiland, 8-4.
The Hurricanes return Sunday for the final day of play at the Hurricane Invitational, taking on in-state rival Florida Atlantic at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
