CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem announces the signing of six recruits to national letter of intents to attend the University of Miami next fall highlighted by All-Americans Viktoria Andonova (Coral Springs) and Ena Leufroy (Atlanta Marist).

“I could not be more pleased with group we have joining us next season,” said Deem. “We were able to bring in a quality group of women who will certainly help us take this program to the next level.”

Andonova was one of the nation’s most sought after recruits after winning two Florida 4A State high jump titles in her high school career. She currently ranks second among US juniors (under-20) having cleared 1.87 meters (6-01.50).

Andonova, who’s mother Ludmilla is a former world record holder in the high jump, holds the Florida State Championship meet record of 1.83 meters (6-00.00) which she set in winning the 2003 State title. Andonova is also a two-time Florida 4A State Champion in the triple jump taking home the title in 2003 and 2004.

Leufroy captured her third consecutive Georgia State 4A title in the 800-meters this season in a time of 2:08.64, the fastest ever by high school runner in the state of Georgia. Her time ranks as the eighth fastest in the nation among high school athletes this season. Leufroy is also a three-time Georgia state champion in the 1600-meters winning the event in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Miami landed two signees from the state of Ohio including Cori Carr (Cincinnati Walnut Hills) and Melissa Hornor (Columbus Davidson).

Carr placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.47) and ran the third leg of the runner-up 4×400-meter at the 2005 Ohio Division I State Indoor Championships. At the Ohio State Outdoor Championships she placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles and was a member of the 4×400-meter relay that placed second and the 4×200-meter relay that finished sixth.

This season Hornor was the District Champion in the 1600-meters (5:11.84) and placed fifth in the event at the Division I Regional Championships. Hornor qualified for the state meet in the 1600-meters as a sophomore and junior placing ninth (5:05.51) and 10th (5:12.71) respectively.

Naples High School standout Anastasia Sanon will also be joining the Hurricanes next season. Sanon led Naples to the 3A District 15 title this season winning the long jump, triple jump and 300-meter hurdles. She went on to capture the Regional title in the triple jump and placed fourth in the event at the State 3A Championships.

Rounding out the spring signees is transfer Danielle Bailey. Bailey, who competed two seasons at Seton Hall, helped the Pirates win the 4×400-meter relay at the 2002 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships. As senior at Christiana High School in Neward, Del., Bailey was named the 2001 Delaware News Female Track Athlete of the Year after winning state titles in the 100-meters and 400-meters, and placing second in the 200-meters at the 2001 Delaware State Track and Field Championships. She is also a member of the Delaware state record holding 4×100-meter (48.35) and 4×200-meter (1:40.44) relays.

The six recruits join hurdler Pavi’Elle James (Miami Northwestern) and sprinter Krista Simkins (Wissahickon, Pa.) who signed letters of intent with the Hurricanes in November.
