TCU held all of the momentum after shocking Notre Dame’s sixth ranked Catrina and Christian Thompson duo on Wednesday to reach today’s quarterfinal.
The Hurricanes quickly found themselves in a four-love hole to open the first set and could not catch up, eventually yielding the set 6-3. The second set was tangled in a one-all tie before Cetnik/Tweedie-Yates reeled off five straight games to take the set and claim the 6-3, 6-1 upset victory.
Bradley and Banada became the first UM duo to reach the NCAA doubles tournament quarterfinals since Paula Iverson and Mariette Verbruggen did so in 1992.
Miami’s top doubles tandem closes the season with a 27-3 overall record. The loss ended an eight-match win streak that dated back to March 16th. Bradley posted a 34-4 doubles record this season, while Banada registered a 30-5 mark.
TCU’s Cetnik/Tweedie-Yates duo improves to 22-3 overall and advances to the semifinal, for the first time in school history, where they will face Stanford’s Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette.
