Hurricanes 13th Heading Into Final Round

Gainesville, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team recorded rounds of 303 and 304, and are in 13th place heading into Saturday’s final round of the NCAA Women’s East Regional Golf Championship being held at the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The tournament field was forced to play 36 holes on Friday after rain forced the postponement of the first round, which was scheduled for Thursday.
Miami was led by a pair of freshmen. Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines Weston) posted back-to-back 75’s and is in a tie for 32nd. Teammate Mandy Fricton (Merritt Island, Fla.) recorded a two-round total of 151 (75-76) and is tied for 38th.
Sophomore Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) is tied for 47th (77-75–152) while senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame), who is playing with a sprained left ankle, recorded a two-round total of 154 and is tied for 58th. Sophomore Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) is tied for 94th (83-79–162).
Ohio State is the surprising leader heading into the final round (285-280–565). The Buckeyes lead top-ranked Duke (292-283–575) by 10 strokes. The Blue Devils have won eight of 10 tournaments this season including three straight.
Miami’s score of 607 places them eight strokes behind Vanderbilt (307-292–599) which is currently in eighth-place. The top eight finishers advance to the NCAA Championship finals, May 17-20, in Sunriver, Oregon.
The Hurricanes will begin final round play on Saturday off the first tee at 11:50 a.m.
