Hurricanes Get Ready for Final Home Stand in Weekend Slate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will host its final pair of home matches of the 2005 season beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against NC State and wrapping up Sunday at noon against Duke at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes (10-8, 1-6 ACC) enter into Friday’s match with the 46th-ranked Wolfpack (15-6, 2-5 ACC) coming off a 6-1 win at Maryland last Sunday. Fifth-ranked Duke (15-2, 5-0 ACC) will take on No. 3 Virginia Friday before heading to Coral Gables Sunday.
UM’s lineup boast two nationally ranked players in junior Tim Krebs (95) and sophomore Josh Cohen (120).
Krebs is 10-6 overall this spring and holds a 7-4 mark at the No. 2 position while Cohen is 10-7 overall in dual play and 8-5 at the No. 1 spot.
Junior Eric Hechtman posts UM’s best record this spring, going 12-3 in singles play while freshman Vivek Subramanian has had the most success in conference play, going 4-2 in ACC matches.
In doubles play, the Hurricanes’ 58th-ranked tandem of Krebs and Subramanian are 11-1 on the season, suffering their first defeat of the spring against Sunday against the Terrapins. The duo are 5-1 in ACC matches and are one of only three doubles teams in the league to win five-out-of-six matches in conference play.
Sunday’s match with the Blue Devils will also mark the final home match for UM’s lone senior Luis Manrique.
Admission to both matches is free to students and the general public.
