University of Miami senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) recorded a second-round 75 and has a one-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round of the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula’s Hotel and Golf Course in Miami Lakes, Fla.
Conditions were difficult on Saturday as players had to contend with cold temperatures, strong winds and rain, which caused a 31 minute delay midway through the round.
Miller’s two-round total of 145 is one stroke better than South Florida’s Amanda Smith (73-73–146) and two-strokes better than UM sophomore Josie Shinn (72-75–147). Miller, who is ranked 34th in the nation, is looking to win her third tournament this season and the seventh of her UM career.
As a team the Hurricanes recorded a second-round 307 and lead the tournament by four strokes. South Florida (297-308–605) and Florida State (299-306–605) are tied for second while last year’s champion Rollins College (305-304–609) is also within striking distance.
A victory would give Miami its third win in four tournaments this spring, and its first State Championship since 1993.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
