Velazquez, Starks Earn All-American Honorable Mention Honors

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – University of Miami divers Miguel Velazquez and Derek Starks earned All-American Honorable Mention honors on the one-meter springboard during the first day of competition at the 2005 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships held in the UniversityAquaticCenter of the University of Minnesota Thursday afternoon. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Velazquez finished in 14th place after posting a score of 299.45, while Starks placed 16th with a score of 294.75.
Arizona State’s Joona Puhakka claimed the one-meter springboard title with a score of 421.05.
The Hurricanes will resume action at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with the three-meter springboard Friday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. Finals will commence at 8:00 p.m.
The NCAA Championships will be broadcast on ESPN2 on April 1 at 1:30 p.m.
