CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second time in as many matches, the Hurricanes suffered a 4-3 loss as they fell to No. 23 Wake Forest Thursday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

In a rescheduled match originally slated for Wednesday evening, the Hurricanes (7-3, 0-2 ACC) opened the afternoon by taking the doubles point from the Demon Deacons (9-1, 1-0 ACC) behind UM’s duo of sophomore Josh Cohen and junior Eric Hechtman – ranked 52nd nationally as doubles tandem – who won in the No. 1 spot, downing Derrick Spice and Marius Adamski, 8-6, and junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian, who claimed an 8-3 victory over Andrew Hamar and Brett Ross.

Heading into singles, Wake Forest’s Todd Paul, who is ranked 84th in singles, defeated 87th-ranked Cohen in straight sets (7-6, 6-3) on the No. 1 court while Spice overtook 64th-ranked Krebs, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 to put the Demon Deacons up 2-1 in the overall match score.

Hechtman gave UM their second point of the day, downing 77th-ranked Hamar in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) at No. 3 but Wake Forest’s Ross earned the Demon Deacon’s third point of the afternoon, fighting off UM junior John Hoyes in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 6-1) at the No. 4 position.

The Demon Deacons clinched the point on the No. 5 court where UM senior Luis Manrique couldn’t hold off Adamski, falling in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).

With the match already decided, Subramanian downed Wake’s Liron Strauss, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 6 to bring the final match score to 4-3.

The Hurricanes will return to action Saturday, March 12, traveling to Clemson to take on the Tigers at 1 p.m.
