Hurricanes Take On Florida Marlins In Jupiter Tuesday
Feb. 28, 2005
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The #9/#11 University of Miami baseball team will test its meddle against the Florida Marlins in an exhibition contest Wednesday, March 1, at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
Miami (10-3) will face a somewhat familiar foe in the Marlins’ scheduled starter, Dontrelle Willis. Willis, Major League Baseball’s 2003 Rookie of the Year, made his first appearance as a Marlin two years ago in an exhibition contest against the `Canes. Senior Brandon Camardese (1-0, 8.64 ERA) will get the start for Miami.
This will be the 26th time the Hurricanes have played a Major League Team. UM is 0-5-1 all-time against the Marlins. Florida won last year’s game, 7-6, on March 3, in Jupiter. Miami has a 1-23-1 all-time record against MLB teams, with the lone win coming in a 7-6 decision against the Baltimore Orioles on March 10, 1982.
Ticket information for Tuesday’s exhibition can be found on the Florida Marlins’ team web site, http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/.
Miami resumes its college slate on Wednesday, March 2 with a 7 p.m. tilt against Northeastern at Mark Light Field. The team opens up its inaugural ACC season with a three-game series against North Carolina State at Mark Light Field, beginning Friday, March 4.
