Hurricanes Win Inaugural Papa John's Collegiate

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Sophomore Josie Shinn fired a final round of 67 (-5) to finish with a three-round five-under-par total of 213 (73-73-67) to win the individual title as the Hurricanes turned in an overall team total of 883 (+19) to win the team championship Tuesday afternoon at the inaugural Papa John’s Collegiate at Don Shula’s Golf Resort.
Shinn, who headed into Tuesday’s final round in a three-way tie for second place and one stroke behind Mississippi State’s Beth Irwin for first place after firing back-to-back rounds of 73, started off the third round on the front nine, birding hole three, six and nine to head out with a three-under-par 33.
After a bogey on hole 11, a 376-yard par four, Shinn rebounded with a birdie on hole 12 and went on to close out the back nine with a two-under-par 34, finishing with final round five-under score of 67.

Irwin finished second in the individual standing with a four-over-par 220 (75-70-75) while four players, including UM senior Tina Miller (75-76-70), finished tied for third at 221 (+5).
Overall, led by Shinn’s 67 and Miller 70, the Hurricanes shot a third-round even total of 288 – a tournament low – to finish with an overall three-day team total of 883 (+19).
East Carolina finished second in the team standings with a three-round total of 902 (+38) followed by Virginia, who fired a over-43 three-round total of 907.
The Hurricanes will play next at the Edwin Watts Pinehurst Challenge beginning March 6 in Pinehurst, N.C.
