Hurricanes Win Second-Straight 7-0 Match

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis won their second-straight 7-0 match and their third-consecutive match overall Friday night, sweeping Jacksonville at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The 51st-ranked Hurricanes (4-1) claimed the doubles’ point from Jacksonville (2-6) early as junior Eric Hechtman and teammate freshman Ryan Waits downed JU’s Martin Hehensteiger and Peter Wietrak, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot and UM duo, junior Tim Krebs and freshman Vivek Subramanian, won at No. 2 over Tarek Merchant and Christian Ritschka (8-2).
In singles play, sophomore Josh Cohen – ranked 26th nationally in singles – rebounded from a second-set, 6-0, loss to upend JU’s Hehensteiger, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 1.
Krebs, who is ranked 123rd in singles, won in straight-sets (6-1, 6-1) over Wietrak at No. 2 and Hechtman handled Ritschka in similar fashion at No. 3.
Subramanian won at No. 4, downing the Dolphins’ Andrew Burks, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) and Luis Manrique outlasted Merchant with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Jacksonville automatically defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The Hurricanes return to action tomorrow, hosting Stetson at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
