Hurricanes Sweep Florida Atlantic, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 10th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team won their 16th straight home-match with a 7-0 sweep over in-state rival Florida Atlantic (0-1) Tuesday evening at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 3-2 on the season.
The home win streak dates back to last season when the Hurricanes finished with a 14-0 record in Coral Gables. Miami defeated Pennsylvania, 7-0, in their season opener Jan. 29th.
No. 2 ranked Megan Bradley won her 19th straight match from the No. 1 position. The Columbia, Missouri native downed Alena Dvorakova 6-1, 6-2.
In No. 2 singles, senior Staci Stevens outlasted FAU’s Veronika Koksova 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (7) while sophomore Audrey Banada, playing in the No. 3 spot for the first time this season, defeated Kristel Borg 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Patricia Starzyk remained undefeated after upending Elodie Wendling 6-0, 6-3 from the No. 4 position to improve her record to 5-0. Fellow freshman Caren Seenauth made her collegiate singles debut, defeating Katherine Bartnik 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Emily Mowery closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Claudia Kecht at the No. 6 slot.
In doubles, Bradley paired up with freshman Juliette Mavroleon to down FAU’s Dvorakova/Wendling duo, 8-0, in the No. 1 spot as Miami’s Stevens/Starzyk tandem defeated Koksova/Kecht, 8-1, at the No. 2 position to clinch the doubles point. Junior Melissa Applebaum joined Seenauth to shutout FAU’s Melissa Borg/Bartnik pair 8-0, to complete the sweep.
The Hurricanes continue their three-match home stand Friday, Feb. 18th when they host cross-town rival Florida International at 1:00 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
