Hurricanes Top South Florida, 4-3

Tampa, Fla. – Junior classmates Tim Krebs, Eric Hechtman and John Hoyes each won their respective singles matches to lead the 47th ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team past in-state rival (54) South Florida, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Hurricanes (2-1) captured the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. Miami’s 43rd ranked doubles duo of Josh Cohen and Hechtman defeated USF’s Uli Kiendl and Marc Jaeger 8-5 in the No. 1 slot. Hoyes paired up with Luis Manrique to top Freddy Barton and Dillon Broyzna 9-8 at No. 2 doubles while Krebs and Ryan Waits upended Juan Barragan and Mark Gattiker 8-5 from the No. 3 position.
Krebs took a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Barton from the No. 2 singles spot as Hechtman defeated Broyzna 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
With the match tied 3-all, the win came down to No. 4 singles where Hoyes outlasted Jaeger in three sets 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 to clinch the win.
The Hurricanes return to action when they host Georgia Southern Sunday, Feb. 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
