Tipiana Named to AVCA All-Region Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– Senior rightside hitter Valeria Tipiana was named to the American Coaches Volleyball Association (AVCA) All-East Region team, it was announced Wednesday.
Tipiana finished her career at Miami as the all-time leader in kills with 1,411 career kills. This season, she led the Hurricanes with 422 total kills for a 4.44 kills per game average and a .318 attacking percentage. She posted nine double-doubles and was a force defensively as well, registering 2.35 digs per game and posting 75 total blocks. Tipiana also paced the Hurricanes with 48 service aces, a new season record, and earned All-ACC first team honors.
The Lima, Peru native became the first player in Miami history to surpass the 1,000 career kills mark, accomplishing the feat in the first match of the season–a 3-0 win over Florida International Sept. 1st.
This is the second time Tipiana has received All-Region honors. She was named to the All-Northeast Region team after the 2002 season where she also was honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Year.
