Hurricanes Conclude Day One of Georgia Tech Invitational

Atlanta, Ga. – Freshman Diver Jenna Dreyer took first place in the three-meter diving board on the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday evening at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

The South Africa native, brought home a score of 527.40 to take the top spot. Sophomore Heather Bounds placed sixth in the three-meter with a score of 441.20.

Freshman Lauren Shue came in 12th in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:02.70, besting her prelims time by nearly four seconds.

Senior Katalin Ferenczi took sixth place in the 200 IM in a time of 2:07.64, followed by junior Adrien Ferguson, who came in 12th in a time of 2:09.80.

In men’s diving, sophomore Derek Starks placed second in the one-meter diving board with a score of 347.85, while senior Miguel Velazquez placed sixth with a score of 327.60.

The Hurricanes’ 400 medley relay squad consisting of Ferenczi, Ferguson, sophomore Nancy Gajos and freshman Taylor McFarlane placed seventh with a time of 3:57.33.

The Hurricanes will resume action at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The order of events for tomorrow’s prelims and finals are 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, Three Meter & One Meter Diving and the 800 Free Relay.
