Swimming and Diving Lands First Recruit in Early Signing Period

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami head swimming coach Mariusz Podkoscielny announced today the signing of Kristen Pomerleau to a National Letter of Intent for the 2005-06 season in the November early signing period.
Pomerleau, a freestyle/backstroke swimmer from Bishop Carroll High School in Alberta, Canada, becomes the first swimmer this year to commit to Miami. She is the Junior National Champion in 50-yard backstroke and holds three Provincial Records. Her 100-yard backstroke time also places her fifth in the country overall.
Pomerleau’s top times include 26.08 in the 50 freestyle (short course), 56.98 in the 100 freestyle (short course), 29.89 in the 50 backstroke (short course), 1:02.96 in the100 backstroke, and 2:04.88 in the 200 freestyle.
“Kristen is a great addition to our Hurricane family and we look forward to watching her become an instant contributor at the NCAA Championship level,” said Podkoscielny.
“She is very athletic and is fast improving, keeping her eye on representing Canada in the 2008 Olympic Games. We are very excited about the next four years and we believe that Kristen will continue a great tradition of standout sprinters in the University of Miami.”
