Hurricanes Go Back to Work

Nov. 9, 2004

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami went back to work today in preparation for Saturday’s game against 11th-ranked Virginia. A victory in the game would keep the Hurricanes, who have lost two straight contests, in the hunt for the ACC championship and a BCS bowl appearance.

“We just have to keep on working and keep getting better,” said head coach Larry Coker. “That’s all we can ask of the players.”

Cornerback Antrel Rolle, the only senior starting on the defense, was sidelined for the practice because of turf toe. “He couldn’t play today if we had a game,” said Coker. “That’s all I can say today. Devin Hester would get the first shot to start, and Marcus Maxey. Hopefully, Antrel will be able to play by the weekend. Devin has come along a great deal. He’s physical; he tackles well. He intercepted a pass. I feel very comfortable with him. Our philosophy is this: If the starter is hurt, then the backup becomes the starter and he’s expected to step up.”

Kickoff for Saturday’s game is at 3:30 p.m. The game will be regionally televised by ABC.
