Men's Tennis Finishes Day Two at the Crimson Tide Fall Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Junior Eric Hechtman advanced through the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Flight A Consolation West draw Saturday to earn a birth into the finals Sunday at the Crimson Tide Fall Classic hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Hechtman downed Wake Forest’s Todd Paul, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 in Saturday’s quarterfinals before advancing to the semifinals where he upended Georgia Tech’s Scott Blackmon, 6-2, 6-4. Hechtman will take on Southern Mississippi’s David Canudas in Sunday’s finals.
Sophomore Josh Cohen was forced into the quarterfinals of the Flight A Consolation Northeast draw after falling to Alabama’s Luigi D’Agord, 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Flight A main draw.
Cohen will face Brett Ross of Wake Forest in the quarterfinals Sunday.
In the Flight B Consolation rounds, freshman Vivek Subramanian fell to Iracki Akhvlediani of Notre Dame, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the West draw while freshman Ryan Waits advanced to the semifinals of the North draw before falling to Samford’s Stuart Misner, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.
Sophomore Neil Sehgal fell to Dylan Mezey of Southern Mississippi, 6-4, 6-1 in semifinals of the Flight C West draw.
In doubles play, Cohen and Hechtman fell in the quarterfinals of the Flight A draw to Colorado’s Peter Bjork and Marko Bundalo, 8-4.
Krebs and Subramanian overtook Colorado’s Marek Dvorak and Jan Zelezny, 8-4 to advance to the semifinals of the Flight B draw and UM’s duo of Sehgal and Waits will play in the semifinals of the Flight C draw after defeating Samford’s Manuel Miletic and Brad Weaver, 8-6 in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
