Q & A with Jamie Grass

Senior Libero Jamie Grass sat down to talk about life as a Hurricane on and off the court. The co-captain helped the Hurricanes defeat Florida State with a 22 dig performance on September 24th.
What are your interests and hobbies outside volleyball?
Soccer, going to the beach, hanging out with family and friends, eating and dancing.
Why did you choose the University of Miami?
I loved the campus, going into a new volleyball program and experiencing something away from home.
What was your first impression of Miami?
I loved it. It was great to be around new teammates and meet new people. The campus was beautiful but it was hot!
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Karch Kiraly. He is inspirational and awesome at defense. He is awesome on the beach… “He’s the man!”
Why did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing because most girls my age were playing where I grew up on the beach and then I played indoors after.
When did you start playing volleyball?
I started playing when I was twelve.

What is your best sports memory?
My best sports memory was making the Sweet Sixteen and beating Notre Dame at home in 2002.
Do you have any superstitions before a match?I warm up with Biz Tyson before every match and try to eat the same thing. The other ones are a secret!
What did you do this summer?
I spent the summer at home in Manhattan Beach where I played beach volleyball and hung out with my family and friends.
What are your goals at Miami both in and outside volleyball?
My goals are to get my business degree, to have a great volleyball season and to help my team accomplish our goals in the ACC and NCAA.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
The future only knows!
