Women's Golf Third After Opening Round

Lexington, Kentucky (hurricanesports.com) – Sophomore Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) fired an opening-round 76 to lead four Hurricane golfers in the 70’s and the University of Miami women’s golf team is in third place (312) after the first round of the UK Wildcat Fall Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky.

Shinn, a transfer from the University of North Carolina, is tied for eighth after one round and is only four strokes behind Amber Churchill (Marshall), who posted a round of 72 on Friday to take the early lead.

As a team the Hurricanes recorded a round of 312 and are 10 strokes out of the lead. Mississippi State leads the team competition after recording an opening round 302 on Friday. Memphis is currently second (309).

Miami senior Tina Miller (Miami Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) opened with a round of 78 and is tied for 17th, while freshman Hagen Weintraub (Davie, Fla.) and sophomore Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) recorded opening round scores of 79 and are tied for 19th. Senior Esther Lee (Seoul, South Korea) posted an 83 and is tied for 43rd.

Second round action begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Sunday’s final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
