Miami Hosts Florida in 2004 Coral Gables Super Regional

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Top-ranked Miami will host the Florida Gators in the 2004 NCAA Coral Gables Super Regional at Mark Light Field beginning Saturday, June 12, at noon.

The second game is scheduled for either noon or 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, with game three slated for either 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. on Monday, June 14, if necessary. The winner of the Coral Gables Super Regional will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., to face the winner of the Texas A&M/LSU super regional that is being played in Baton Rouge, La.

The first game of the super regional will be televised on ESPN2 with game to slated to be televeised on ESPN. Television coverage of the third game (if necessary) will be on ESPN2.

The Hurricanes dispatched of the Coral Gables Regional field this past weekend at Mark Light Field in three games. UM beat St. Bonaventure in the opener, 6-3, and then pounded North Carolina State, 19-5, to advance to the championship game. Miami bounced Florida Atlantic from the tournament on Sunday, trouncing the Blue Wave, 19-6. Head Coach Jim Morris’ Hurricanes (47-11) have won an NCAA-record 11 consecutive regionals.

This marks the fourth super regional Miami hast hosted since the NCAA tournament expanded to 64-teams in 1999. Miami has won all three super regionals played at Mark Light Field with a perfect 6-0 record. UM is 8-4 overall in super regional action, including super regionals played at Florida State in 2000 and South Carolina in 2002.

The Hurricanes opened their season with the Gators in mid-February and won two-of-three games at Mark Light Field. Miami leads the all-time series with Florida 113-85-1, including a 10-3 mark in the postseason. This will be the first-ever super regional meeting between Florida and Miami.

Single-game general admission tickets for Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13, are also on sale for $9 for adults and $7 for youths under 17 and seniors over 55.
