Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete this weekend, May 28-29, at the NCAA East Regional Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

The top-5 individual finishers and top-3 relays in each event advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 9-12, in Austin, Texas.

The Hurricane men will be sending senior Aaron Dolores (Mill Valley, Calif.) in the long jump, as well as the 4×100-meter relay of freshman Devin Hester (Riviera Beach, Fla.), sophomore Darnell Jenkins (Miami Central), sophomore Travarous Bain (Miami Northwestern) and sophomore Akieem Jolla (New Orleans, La.). Junior Tanard Davis (Miami Southridge) will serve as an alternate.

The 10th ranked UM women will have an extremely talented and deep group of competitors heading up to Gainesville. Overall the Hurricanes have qualified 14 women in 10 different events.

Leading the way is seven-time All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who enters the regional championship with the fastest time in the world this season in the 100-meters (11.01). She is undefeated this season in 100-meter competition (5-0) including wins at the Penn Relays and BIG EAST Championships.

Miami enters the NCAA East Regional with arguably the top group of jumpers in the nation. The Hurricanes have qualified five jumpers in the long jump and four jumpers in the triple jump.

Freshman Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) earned All-America in both the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and has qualified in both events for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Others qualifying in both events include freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas), who earned All-America honors in the long jump at NCAA Indoors, and freshman Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.).

Juniors Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.) and Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) have qualified in the long jump, while senior Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), the defending East Regional triple jump champion, qualified in the triple jump.

In addition to the long jump, Amber Williams will also be competing in the 100-meter hurdles. Other Hurricanes competing include sophomore India Ransom (Largo, Md.) in the 100-meters, sophomore Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) in the 400-meter hurdles, senior Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) in the shot put, and senior Megan Cobb (Ypsilanti, Mich.) in the hammer.

Miami will have three runners competing in the 400-meters including sophomore Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern), freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) and junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas).

Miami’s women have also qualified both the 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.
