The Hurricanes Travel To NCAA Regional

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The No. 23 University of Miami women’s tennis team (17-3) will travel to the University of Florida to face No. 52 South Alabama (12-11) at the NCAA Tennis Regionals Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla.

Miami was an automatic tournament qualifier as they claimed their eighth BIG EAST Championship title knocking-off No.1 seeded Notre Dame 4-0 at the BIG EAST Championships in Coral Gables, Fla.

Regional host-school No. 1 Florida (22-0) will face Hampton (17-5) in the other first round matchup. The winner of that match will face the winner of the UM/USA contest in the second round of regionals on Saturday May 15 at 5 p.m.

The Hurricanes are 1-0 against South Alabama this season as they defeated the Jaguars 7-0 on February 20, 2004 in Coral Gables.

Sixteen regional competitions will be conducted May 14-16 with the winner of each site advancing to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia hosted by the University of Georgia. The team championship will be held May 20-23.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first- and second-round sites (four teams at each site) and the finals site (16-team bracket) to determine the national champion.
