Williams Second After First Day Of Heptathlon

Piscataway, N.J. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) recorded 3,222 points and is in second-place after the first day of the heptathlon at the BIG EAST Track and Field Championships in Piscataway, N.J.
Williams won the 200-meter dash (25.42), finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.23), third in the shot put with a season-best toss of 11.74 meters (38-06.25) and sixth in the high jump with a season-best leap of 1.64 meters (5-04.50).
Williams, who was the runner up in the heptathlon at the 2002 BIG EAST Championships, is currently 145 points behind overall leader Tamara McGill (Pittsburgh) who posted a score of 3,367 points on Friday.
Miami has three athletes competing in the heptathlon this weekend. Freshman Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) is fourth with a total of 2,981 points, while freshman Debbie Estime (Miami Varela Senior) recorded 2,712 points and is in 13th after the first day of competition.
The heptathlon concludes on Saturday with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
