Track Travels To Penn Relays

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the 2004 Penn Relays, April 22-24, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Senior Matt Mulvaney (South Hadley, Mass.) will lead the Hurricane men’s team. Mulvaney will attempt to break the school-record in the 5,000-meters on Thursday evening. Mulvaney set the school-record in the 10,000-meters earlier this season.

The seventh-ranked Hurricane women are led by junior Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who has the fastest times in the world in both 100-meters (11.01) and 200-meters (22.46). Williams will compete in the 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay.

Freshman phenom Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario), who ranks second in the nation in the triple jump (13.43 meters/44-00.75) and fourth in the nation in long jump (6.35 meters/20-10.00), will compete in both events.

Sophomore Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.), who ranks 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (57.97) and is an NCAA regional qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles, will take part in the 400-meter hurdles as well as the 4×100-meter relay.

Joining Darden and Williams on the Hurricanes’ fourth-ranked 4×100-meter relay are junior Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.) and sophomore India Ransom (Largo, Md.). In addition, Ransom will compete in the 100-meters.

Freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) and Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) will both compete in the long jump and triple jump, while junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) will compete in the long jump.

Miami’s eighth-ranked 4×400-meter relay of junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas), sophomore Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern), senior Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) and freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) will be competing.

Greggs, Carter, Moore and Ransom will also compete in the 4×200-meter relay.
