Florida State Downs Miami, 10-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Florida State snapped fourth-ranked Miami’s four-game winning streak over the Seminoles with a 10-3 win at Mark Light Field Sunday afternoon in front of 3,382 fans.
The loss drops Miami to 28-8 on the season, while FSU improves to 26-13.
Brandon Camardese suffered his first loss of the season to drop to 4-1. He allowed five runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out three. Rhett James (4-1) picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.
Jim Burt led Miami’s offense attack with a solo home run and a double off the left-field wall, while Adam Ricks also chipped in with two hits.
Cheesman put the Seminoles up early with a two-run homer to left in the first inning. Stephen Drew was aboard after drawing a walk for Cheesman’s second home run of the season.
FSU added another run in the second inning to go up 3-0 when Matt Sauls hit his first homer of the year, a solo shot to left.
The Hurricanes got two runs back in the bottom half of the second. Burt hit a solo home run to left and Roger Tomas recorded an RBI-double to the gap in left center. The home run was his team-leading eighth of the season. The RBI also set a career-high for Burt with 49. He drove in 48 as a sophomore in 2002.
In the top of the third, Florida State pushed the lead to 5-2. Shane Robinson led off with a single and came around to score on Drew’s double down the right field line. Drew later scored on Cheesman’s single up the middle.
Florida State’s lead grew to 8-2 with three runs in the top of the sixth with the help of an error, sacrifice fly and a bases loaded walk.
FSU and UM each scored a run in the seventh to make it 9-3. Robinson knocked in a run with a double in the top half of the inning and Miami’s Brian Barton singled home Adam Ricks in the bottom half.
The Seminoles final run came in the top of the ninth as Drew was walked with two outs and the bases loaded to plate Bryan Zech to make final score 10-3.
Miami welcomes 23rd-ranked Virginia to Mark Light Field for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 23, at 7 p.m.
