Charles Sets School-Record In Triple Jump

Austin, Texas (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) recorded a mark of 13.43 meters (44-00.75) to set a school-record in the triple jump at the 77th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
Charles, who won the long jump on Friday, finished second in the triple jump by a mere 2.75 inches. Auburn’s Shelly-Ann Gallimore won the triple jump with a mark of 13.50 meters (44-03.50).
Charles jump qualifies her for the NCAA Regional Championships, May 28-29, in Gainesville, Fla. Charles, who became the first Hurricane to earn All-America honors in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships, has now qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regional Championships in both events.
The women’s 4×200-meter relay of sophomore All-American Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.), junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.), junior Wiande Moore (Spring, Texas) and freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) also established a new school-record finishing second with a time of 1:33.45.
The women’s 4×100-meter relay of junior Chinela Davis (Haverstraw, N.Y.), Moore, Darden and Williams finished third with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 44.19 seconds.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay of senior All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), Darden, sophomore All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) and Etienne also qualified for NCAA Regional competition finishing sixth with a time of 3:34.19.
The Hurricanes return to action next weekend, April 10, when they host the Miami Gatorade Track and Field Classic at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla.
