Miami Lakes, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Freshman Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) fired an opening round 77 and the University of Miami is in fourth-place after the first round of the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship at Don Shula’s Golf Course and Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla.

Miami, which recorded a team total of 320, is 15 strokes behind first round leader South Florida (305). Rollins College, the 2003 NCAA Division II National Champion, is second with a score of 309, while defending Ryder Champion Florida State is third (318).

Prats was the Hurricanes’ top performer on Friday and is in a tie for fifth with South Florida’s Amanda Smith. Mariana De Biase (Rollins) leads the individual competition after an opening round 74. South Florida’s Fernanda Rivera and Daniella Ronderos one stroke back in second place. Stetson’s Samantha Maust is fourth after shooting 76.

Second round action begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
