CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami completed a three-game sweep of Penn State, 11-3, Sunday afternoon in front of 1,523 fans a Mark Light Field.

The fifth-ranked Hurricanes improve to 22-5 on the season heading into a three-game series with Georgia Tech that begins on Friday, April 2, in Atlanta.

J.D. Cockroft evened his record at 2-2 with a season-high seven innings of work. The senior left-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out three.

Jon Jay, Jim Burt, Brian Barton and Ryan Braun led UM’s 18-hit attack with three hits each. Jay drove in three runs on the day while Barton and Braun added two RBI each.

Miami sealed the game with three runs in the seventh inning with a two-RBI double from Jay and a RBI single by Burt.

The Hurricanes got things rolling in the first inning and scored three runs with two outs. With two outs and a runner on second base, Miami ripped off four consecutive singles from Burt, Barton, Braun and Gaby Sanchez.

The Hurricanes’ lead was cut, 3-1 in the second on a leadoff home run by Matt Harter. PSU added another run in the third inning on a RBI single by Scott Gummo to left field.

UM reeled off five straight hits in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead, highlighted by a RBI single from Erick San Pedro and a RBI double by nine-hole hitter Joey Hooft.

Barton collected his third hit of the day with a RBI double to right field that Penn State’s Brett Showalter lost in the sun and then kicked allowing Barton to move to third base. Braun then followed with his third hit of the day to score Barton and give the Hurricanes a 7-2 lead in the fourth inning.

Jay ripped a single past the Nittany Lions’ third baseman Colin Runt in the fifth inning to score Hooft, who reached on an error, to give UM an 8-2 lead.
