No. 31 Hurricanes Roll Past Wisconsin, 6-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis used five singles wins along with the doubles point on their way to a 6-1 victory over Wisconsin Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
With the win, the 31st-ranked Hurricanes snap a three match win streak, improving to 10-3 on the year while Wisconsin falls to 4-5 in dual action this season.
Miami cruised past the Badgers in doubles play with the Hurricanes’ duo of Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) and Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla.) overpowering Ward Bortz and Jordan Raemisch, 8-1 in the No. 3 position. UM’s Tim Krebs (Eschborn, Germany) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) then sealed the doubles point with a win over Alex Kasarov and David Hippee (8-6) at the No. 1 spot. The Hurricanes’ John Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) and Jeremiah Fuller (Emmaus, Fla.) won at No. 2, defeating Scott Green and Alex Conti, 9-8, winning the tie-breaker 7-5.
The Hurricanes’ carried momentum from the doubles victory into singles play when Cohen (Weston, Fla.) – returning to action after missing the past three matches – overtook Kasarov in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot to give UM a 2-0 lead.
Purcell then furthered the UM lead, downing Conti, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4. The Badgers would respond when Green upended Krebs, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 to give UW their first point of the day.
Hoyes cut the Wisconsin rally short with a win at No. 5 over Bortz (6-3, 6-3), giving the Hurricanes the match-clinching fourth point.
Hechtman won over Hippee, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Fuller edged out UW’s Mark Weinig, 6-1, 4-6, (10-8) to give the Hurricanes their fifth and sixth points of the day.
Miami will return to action Sunday, hosting Georgia Southern at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center beginning at noon. Admission is free.
