UM Hosts Hurricane Invitational on Saturday

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track teams will host the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday, March 20 at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables.
Field events will begin at 9 a.m. with track events starting at noon. Tickets for the meet are $5 for adults and $3 for children and senior citizens. The meet is the first of the outdoor season for the Hurricanes, and first of two home meets this year.
Scheduled to attend are Army, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida Memorial, New York Tech, North Dakota State, Northeastern, Rutgers, South Florida, St. John’s (women only), Syracuse and Texas (men only).
The Miami women, who recorded a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, are led by seven-time All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.) who this past summer won Gold Medals in the 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay at Pan Am Games, as well as a Silver Medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the World Championships.
The meet will be the first collegiate outdoor competition for freshman Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) who last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships became the first Hurricane to earn All-America honors in both the long jump and triple jump.
The UM men will be led by the sprinting trio of Tanard Davis (Miami Southridge), Terrell Walden (Miami Edison) and Devin Hester (Riviera Beach, Fla.). Davis, Walden and Hester finished 1-2-3 in the 60-meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships while Hester also claimed the BIG EAST long jump title.
