Hurricanes Hold On For 10-8 Win Over Campbell

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team held on for a 10-8 win over Campbell on Wednesday night at Mark Light Field in front of 1,231 fans.
The sixth-ranked Hurricanes took advantage of 11 Camel walks and four errors to score 10 runs on only six hits. UM improves to 12-3 on the season and have won eight straight games. Campbell falls to 8-7 on the season.
Vince Bongiovanni and the Miami pitching staff provided the Hurricanes’ stability on a cool South Florida night. Bongiovanni earned his second win of the season (2-0) with six solid innings on the mound. He allowed one run on four hits, while striking out four and walking none.
George Huguet was the last of six pitchers for Miami that did not issue a walk on the night. It marked the first time the UM pitching staff did not walk an opposing batter since March 31, 2002, against Elon, a span of 109 games.
Huguet earned his third save of the season with one inning of work. The save marked the 34th of his career, tying him for second all-time at Miami with Robbie Morrison. It was also his 112th career appearance, which tied him with Morrison for second on that list as well.
Jon Jay paced the Hurricanes offensively with two hits and one RBI, while Brendan Katin, Gaby Sanchez, Erick San Pedro and Eddy Rodriguez collected one hit apiece.
Tyler Sexton took the loss for Campbell, allowing four runs on one hit, while walking four in 1.2 innings.
Offensively, Campbell was led by Tom Rispoli with two hits and two RBI on the night. Joe Anthonsen, Jason Brown and Nate Logan also chipped in with two hits each for the Camels.
The Hurricanes return to action on Friday, March 12, for a 7 p.m. game with Rutgers at Mark Light Field. The series continues on Saturday at 7 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
