Women's Track Ranked 10th By Trackwire

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track and field team jumped two spots to No. 10 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings released late Monday.
The Hurricanes, who won their second consecutive BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championship in convincing fashion this past weekend, cracked the top-10 for the first time this season.
Miami, led by junior All-American Lauryn Williams (Rochester, Pa.), has several individuals and one relay ranked among the nation’s elite. Williams, who captured the BIG EAST 60-meter and 200-meter titles this weekend, has the nation’s top mark in the 60-meters (7.21) and ranks fourth in the 200-meters (23.24).
Freshman Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario), the 2004 BIG EAST Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performer, has the nation’s top mark in the triple jump (13.53 meters) and eighth best mark in the long jump (6.28 meters). Charles won both the long jump and the triple jump at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
Sophomore All-American Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern), the BIG EAST 400-meter champion, ranks 14th in the nation in the event as well as 10th in the nation in the 200-meters.
All-American and BIG EAST 60-meter hurdle champion Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) ranks 13th in the nation in the 200-meters and 28th in the nation in the hurdles.
Miami’s 4×400-meter relay of freshman Ginou Etienne (Miami Central), Greggs, Darden, and All-American Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern) has recorded the nation’s fifth best time this season (3:34.45).
Etienne, the BIG EAST Indoor Champion at 500-meters, also ranks 15th in the nation in the 400-meters (53.58) while Carter ranks 15th in the nation in the triple jump.
Other Hurricanes ranked on the NCAA lists include freshman Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) who is 11th in the long jump (6.25 meters) and 25th in the triple jump (12.73 meters), seniors Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) and Jennifer Penrose (Mesa, Ariz.) who rank 29th and 34th in the shot put respectively, and junior Amber Williams (Succasunna, N.J.) who ranks 10th in the pentathlon.
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships take place March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
