CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Terrell Walden recorded a time of 6.76 in the finals to win the BIG EAST Indoor title in the 60-meters for the second consecutive year Saturday at the opening day of the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships in Syracuse, N.Y.

Walden’s time in the 60-meters broke the BIG EAST Indoor Championship record time of 6.77 set by former Hurricane Santana Moss in 2000. UM freshman Devin Hester also tied Moss’ record of 6.77 to finish second in the 60-meters behind Walden.

In addition to an impressive performance in the 60-meters, Hester took his first BIG EAST title as a Hurricane with a first place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.37 meters (24-02.25 feet).

The Hurricanes wrapped up day one of the BIG EAST Championships in fifth place overall with 16 total points while Connecticut led the field with 50 points.

The final day of competition is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Carrier Dome.
