Men's Tennis Overpowers Florida A&M, 7-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team blanked in-state foe Florida A&M, 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis center to remain undefeated on the season at 4-0.
The Hurricanes took all three doubles matches, including an 8-5 win at the No. 1 position by the 41st-ranked duo of sophomores Tim Krebs (Eschborn, Germany) and Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) over FAMU’s Pfungwa Mahefeu and Yves Sinson, to take an early lead over the Rattlers (3-3) at 1-0.
Miami’s momentum carried over into singles play with UM winning at each position in straight sets.
Freshman Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla.) took a win at No. 1 for the Hurricanes with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pfungwa, sophomore John Hoyes (Miami, Fla.) won at No. 2, downing Davin Russell of FAMU, 6-1, 6-1, sophomore Eric Hechtman (Miami, Fla.) defeated Zurab Zhvania, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Krebs won at No. 4 over Sinson, 6-2, 6-2, Purcell upended Frank Green, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and sophomore Jeremiah Fuller (Emmaus, Pa.) won at No. 6 over Jarrel Williams, 6-3, 6-1.
The Hurricanes will return to action on Sunday, hosting in-state rival No. 7 Florida at noon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Fans are invited to come out for free fruit smoothies. Admission is free.
