Rice Leads Canes Past Crosstown Rival Florida International

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Darius Rice led all scorers with a season-high 28points, leading Miami past crosstown rival Florida International 89-72 onSaturday night.
Rice hit 11-of-20 shots, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. He had 17points in the first half, then scored five of Miami’s first 12 second-halfpoints to help the Hurricanes build a 57-40 lead with 15:36 remaining.
Guillermo Diaz scored 15 points, all coming on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-pointrange, and Robert Hite added 14 for Miami (4-2), which connected on aseason-high 57.4 percent of its shots.
Junior Matias scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds forFlorida International (2-4), which managed just seven assists compared with 21turnovers.
Taurence Johnson and Carlos Morban each scored 19 points for FloridaInternational.
The win stretched the Hurricanes’ home non-conference winning streak to 23games.
