Where Will You Be Winners
Nov. 4, 2003
Winners of the “Where Will You Be?” contest for the Miami-Virginia Tech football game had a surprise visit by President Donna E. Shalala and the Miami Maniac!
The first stop was at Mike’s house. He had a Hurricane/1st birthday party for his friend Debbie Scarry’s little boy Ryan. Ryan was in a UM jersey with ‘Canes shorts and had over 60 people in attendance. His birthday partylasted until the game kicked off – and the party turned into a Hurricane fest from then on. All of the children were in cheerleading outfits or UM clothes. Ryan’s birthday cake was orange and green and had #1 as if it were his number instead of his age.
Then the President went to Renee Kruetzer’s house – her little boy Jordan had written into our contest. Jordan and his “Cane Gang” watched the game with parents and buddies.
The next house was Bertilla “Bertie” Soto’s home. Bertie had family over and her Larry Coker bobblehead all watching the game together. Their flag was flying out in front and all orange and green d?cor.
We also stopped by Track Coach Amy Deem’s house to visit with the track team. The Maniac helped out in the kitchen where Amy had been cooking since 11:30 am.
Final stops included Gameworks, the official Hurricane Game Watch Party at Sunset Place; Stanford Residential College, Hecht and Eaton Halls – all were throwing game watch parties!
Congratulations to the winners and GO CANES!
