CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The second-ranked University of Miami football team held a two-hour workout in shorts and shoulder pads on Tuesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields in preparation for this weekend’s upcoming game with in-state rival No. 6 Florida State.
“I wish we could play a big game like Florida State every week,” head coach Larry Coker said. “If we could keep the intensity that we have now. We really moved today and had guys flying around, having fun.”
The Hurricanes will have to fill a major void left by injuries to some of Miami’s key players this season.
“Bryan Pata and Mo Sikes really moved around today better than I though they would,” Coker said. “I like the way our tailback situation is shaping up, Jason Geathers has looked very good. Tyrone Moss and Jarrett Payton are really stepping it up.”
Sophomore defensive back Greg Threat has been practicing in place of the injured Sikes at the safety position for the Hurricanes.
“I was really impressed with Greg coming out of spring practice,” Coker said. “He had 15 great days. It is not like he has never played. He played the entire season last year and started 15 days in spring practice.”
Miami will square off with FSU on Saturday at noon on ABC.
