UM Volleyball Prepares for 2003

The University of Miami volleyball team reported to campus on Thursday afternoon and are scheduled to begin practice on Friday, Aug. 8.

Head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch returns 11 letterwinners, including five starters, from last season’s squad that finished 27-6 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

The Hurricanes will led this season by 2002 BIG EAST Player of the Year Valeria Tipiana (Lima, Peru) and 2002 BIG EAST Setter of the Year Mallorey James (Tucson, AZ).

UM opens its season on Aug. 29 when it hosts the Hurricane Invitational at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables. UM will face Manhattan at 7 p.m.
