Sophomore left-hander Brandon Camardese lasted 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits. The big blow was a two-run double off the bat of Dustin Majewski. Michael Hollimon also hit a solo home run in Texas’ three-run third inning.Chiqui Chirino faced on batter in the fifth inning in relief of Camardese. Chirino issued a walk to Majewski to load the bases. Alex Blanco then came in and struck out Eric Sultemeier and got Curtis Thigpen to ground to third base.Ryan Braun collected his first hit of the College World Series with a one-out single in the fourth inning. He finished with two hits on the night after lacing a single to left field in the sixth inning.Shawn Valdes-Fauli made his team-high 37th appearance in the sixth inning in relief of Alex Blanco.Danny Figueroa swiped his team-high 41st stolen base of the season in the seventh inning after singling to right-center field.Erick San Pedro extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single to right field in the fifth inning.Brian Barton extended his hitting streak to eight games with a RBI double into right-center field.The Hurricanes are now 44-32 at the College World Series, which ranks fourth in the nation behind Southern California, Texas and Arizona State.Texas owns a 21-19 edge in the all-time series with Miami after the Longhorns’ win over UM on Saturday night. Texas also holds a 5-3 advantage over Miami at the College World Series.Head Coach Jim Morris has a 58-18 overall postseason record. He is also 18-10 in his eight appearances at the College World Series.Ryan Braun and Gaby Sanchez were named to Baseball America’s freshman All-American baseball team. Braun was a first-team selection after being named Baseball America’s National Freshman of the Year on Monday. Sanchez was tabbed a second-team selection after an excellent year at third base for the Hurricanes.Jim Burt broke his postseason slump with a solo home run in the game versus SMS. Burt was 0-16 at the plate before the home run. His last hit came in the regional game against Florida on June 1, 2003. Burt went 2-4 at the plate against SMS with two runs scored and one RBI, including the solo homer.Sophomore catcher Erick San Pedro recorded his 11th and 12th pickoffs of the season versus SMS placing him first all-time among Hurricane catchers and second overall. Former pitcher Brian Walker holds the all-time pickoff record with 15.
