Q & A with Dan Touchet

Q & A with Dan Touchet

June 4, 2003

Earlier today, University of Miami pitcher Dan Touchet took time out of his day to answer a few questions about his rehab from injury, Super Regional outlook and his personal goals for the 2004 season.

Hurricanesports.com: As your freshmen teammates prepare themselves for their first Super Regional, what advice have you been able to give them?
Dan Touchet: Just go out and pitch the way they can. Don’t try to change anything. They have been successful just the way they are.

Hurricanesports.com: We know that you suffered a season ending elbow injury earlier this season. How is the rehab coming along?
Dan Touchet: Awesome! I just started throwing Monday. It’s kind of a relief to finally get to throw the ball again. I’m staying positive and I’m hoping to come back even stronger.

Hurricanesports.com: What do you hope to accomplish next season?
Dan Touchet: If I get the opportunity to play pro ball after next season, this will all be worthwhile.

Hurricanesports.com: Growing up, what was your favorite major league team?
Dan Touchet: I was born in Atlanta, so it would be the Atlanta Braves. Plus, their spring training site was in WPB, where I grew up.

Hurricanesports.com: When did you start playing baseball?
Dan Touchet: I started playing T-Ball at age 5. That’s about as early as you can start.

Hurricanesports.com: What has been your best baseball memory?
Dan Touchet: Definitely starting two games in the Florida Regional last season. I started the Friday and Sunday games. We went on to win that Regional.

Hurricanesports.com: What has been your greatest baseball disappointment?
Dan Touchet: Not having the chance to play in Omaha…yet.

Hurricanesports.com: What is your favorite baseball movie?
Dan Touchet: Probably for the Love of the Game. That movie first came out during my senior year in high school. I was coming off a shoulder injury and the movie touched on some of the things I was thinking and feeling.

Hurricanesports.com: What advice would you give young athletes?
Dan Touchet: Always work hard. Take care of your arm, because it’s one of the most important things you’ve got for baseball and be sure to listen to your coaches.

Hurricanesports.com: What’s one thing a lot of people don’t know about you?
Dan Touchet: I have a photographic memory. I have the ability to see or hear anything one time and be able to duplicate it immediately. That includes knowing the words to a song after hearing it once, seeing someone dance a certain way and being able to mimic it immediately or reading a chapter once and remembering all the details. If I read a book for an exam, I can close my eyes and picture the pages of the book, along with all the information on it.
