Hurricanes Travel to Fifth-Ranked Long Beach State

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The 18th-ranked Miami baseball team travels to fifth-ranked Long Beach State for a regular season ending series with the Dirtbags beginning on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. (PT).
The Hurricanes bring a 37-13-1 record into the series, while Long Beach State has a 37-16 record on the year.
Friday’s game will get underway at 7 p.m. (PT) and will be broadcast on College Sports Television, which can be found on Direct TV. All three games will also be broadcast on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM.
J.D. Cockroft (9-2, 2.41 ERA) will go to the mound on Thursday in the series opener. Long Beach State will counter with left-hander Abe Alvarez (10-0, 2.48 ERA).
Friday’s contest will pit UM left-hander Brandon Camardese against the Dirtbags’ Jered Weaver (12-3, 2.11 ERA). On Saturday, right-hander Vince Bongiovanni (6-3, 3.70 ERA) will start the series finale opposite Long Beach State’s Cesar Ramos (5-4, 2.95 ERA).
Third baseman Adam Heether (.373) leads a Long Beach State squad that is hitting .299 as a team and averaging 5.9 runs per game. John Bowker is hitting .344 with a team-high seven home runs, while shortstop Troy Tulowitzki leads the team in RBIs with 40.
Ryan Braun continues to pace the Hurricanes with a .367 batting average, 14 home runs and 63 RBIs. Braun is just one RBI shy of UM’s freshman record set by Pat Burrell in 1996.
Miami leads the all-time series between the two clubs, 11-7, after winning two-of-three games over the Dirtbags last season in Coral Gables. UM Head Coach Jim Morris is 10-4 against Long Beach State in his 10 years at Miami.
