Megan Bradley Advances In The NCAA Singles Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla.- No. 79 Megan Bradley (Columbia, Mo.) entered the NCAA Singles Championship bracket as the first alternate and went on to knock off No. 36 Urska Juric of Missouri in the first round Monday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

Bradley beat Juric in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 improving her record to 17-8 on the season.

She will face No. 19 Amanda Johnson of Duke University Tuesday morning.

No. 58 Melissa Applebaum (Coral Gables, Fla.) also entered the singles tournament as the second alternate behind Bradley.

Applebaum fell to No. 33 Julie Smekodub of Tulane in three sets. Applebaum came out strong winning the first set 6-2, before falling 6-1 in the second set and 6-2 in the third.

Applebaum wraps up her freshman season with a 21-11 overall record.

Applebaum and Bradley are ranked No. 21 in doubles and will begin competition in the doubles portion of the NCAA Tournament Tuesday afternoon.

The duo will face No. 8 ranked Julie DeRoo and Amanda Johnson of Duke University in the first round.

Applebaum and Bradley are 14-2 on the season, including a 14-1 mark at the No. 1 doubles position.
