Hurricanes Fall to Jacksonville 11-8

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Right-hander Josh Deel came on in relief of Jacksonville starter Donald Brickle with two outs in the third inning and proceeded to shut down the Miami bats down, as the Dolphins went on to a 11-8 win on Saturday night at Alexander Brest Field.
The Hurricanes managed only four hits and one run after Deel entered the game.
The loss drops 17th-ranked Miami to 33-12-1, while Jacksonville improves to 25-26 on the season.
UM starter Brandon Camardese last only three innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs. Marcelo Albir came on and took the loss falling to 1-2 on the season, allowing four runs on four hits. Deel picked up the win for the Dolphins to improve to 4-4 on the season.
Gaby Sanchez led the way at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance that included his fifth home run of the season. Ryan Braun, Erick San Pedro and Paco Figueroa all collected two hits each.
Jacksonville jumped on top 1-0 in the first inning with an infield hit from Larry Best-Berfet, who came around to score on a ground out to the shortstop by Orlando Diaz.
Miami pounded out three hits in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. UM got RBI doubles from Paco Figueroa and Ryan Braun. The Canes also scored a run on a Danny Figueroa RBI ground out to the shortstop.
The Dolphins took a 6-3 lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning by John Galui and a solo shot by Best-Berfet. JU scored two runs earlier in the inning on a throwing error by Gaby Sanchez at third base.
Brian Barton singled to lead off the third inning and came around to score on San Pedro’s two-out RBI single to left field. Miami continued the two-out rally loading the based for Adam Ricks who lined a single off of Brickle’s left elbow. The ball ricocheted to the third baseman, who threw it over the first baseman’s head as two Hurricanes came around to score and tie the score at 6-6.
Chris Kelly jacked his second home run of the season to give Jacksonville a 7-6 lead with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.
UM tied the game at 7-7 in the fourth inning with a RBI ground out by Joey Hooft. Marcelo Albir came on to replace Camardese in the fourth inning.
After walking the first two batters of the fourth inning and giving up an RBI double to Orlando Diaz, Albir took a line shot off his back that ricocheted to Ryan Braun at shortstop, who caught it and got Diaz who had strayed off second base.
JU extended its lead to 11-7 in the fifth inning with a three-run home run off the bat of shortstop Brett Nagy that would close the book on Albir. Andrew Lane came on and pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.
Sanchez launched his fifth home run of the season with two outs in the eighth inning to pull the Hurricanes within three at 11-8.
The two teams will finish the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Alexander Brest Field.
