No. 30 Men's Tennis Falls To No. 31 FSU In NCAA Regional

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 30 University of Miami men’s tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 31 Florida State in the first round of the NCAA Regionals in Gainesville, Fla.

The Hurricanes finish the season with a 13-8 overall record, while the Seminoles improve to 15-10 overall.

Miami took an early 1-0 lead winning two-of-three doubles matches. No. 30-ranked Andrew Golub and Colin Purcell defeated Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

Todd Widom teamed up with Eric Hechtman beating Mat Cloer and Rodrigo Laub at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.

No. 21-ranked Widom recorded the only singles point for the Hurricanes defeating Mat Cloer in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 position.

Additionally, Widom was selected among 64 players to participate in the NCAA singles championships taking place May 21-26 in Athens, Ga.

Widom finished the regular season with a 22-8 singles mark and was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the BIG EAST Championship Tournament.
