Hurricanes Rout Pace, 23-1

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team pounded out 19 hits en route to a 23-1 rout of Pace in front 1,157 fans Saturday night at Mark Light Field.
Miami improves its record to 31-11-1 on the season, while Pace drops to 9-34.
Hurricane starter Brandon Camardese (7-0) recorded the win, pitching five scoreless innings, giving up only three hits while striking out six batters.
Miami right fielder Brian Barton led the way offensively for the Hurricanes with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Paco Figueroa also collected three hits and a career-high five RBIs.
The Hurricanes began the second inning where they left off last night, scoring 13 runs on 10 hits and three errors. Miami continued to set records, batting around twice in the inning for the first time in school history. Additionally, every Hurricane batter reached base at least once in the inning.
Miami’s combined 50 runs scored this weekend is the most runs scored in the first two games of a three-game series since the Hurricanes scored 45 runs in the series with Notre Dame in 1998 (Feb. 20 and 21).
Miami extended its lead to 17-0 in the third inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Joey Hooft highlighted the inning with an RBI triple to right field. Hooft finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. The Hurricanes sent all nine batters to the plate for the second time in the game.
Tom Shannon added another run in the sixth inning, 18-0, on a pinch-hit home run to left field. The home run was the third of the season for the junior transfer.
Pace avoided the shutout in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly by Rob Faist scoring, Dan Iorio who tripled down the right field line.
Miami added five more runs in the eighth inning to give the Hurricanes a 22-run lead.
The Hurricanes will complete the three-game series with Pace Sunday, May 4, at 1 pm at Mark Light Field.
