Hurricanes Return Home to Take on Pace University

The 17th-ranked Miami baseball team returns home for a three-game series with Pace University at Mark Light Field on May 2-4. The series will begin with 7 p.m. games on Friday and Saturday and a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
The Hurricanes enter the contest with a 29-11-1 record after a six-game series with second-ranked Florida State the past two weekends. Pace is 7-32 on the season as an independent team out of Pleasentville, NY.
The series will once again be carried by the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM.
Miami leads the all-time series 7-0. The teams last meeting was March 9th, 1994, a 8-2 win for Head Coach Jim Morris. The two clubs first meeting on a baseball diamond was on April 7, 1969.
The Setters are struggling offensively, hitting .225 as team with four home runs. Ricy Piovesan leads the team with a .342 batting average with Paul Bonaros second in hitting with a .283 average. On the mound, Pace has a 7.39 ERA with opponents hitting .314.
Pace will send three right-handers to the mound this weekend with Patrick Stanley (1-4, 5.26 ERA) going to the hill in the series opener on Friday. Jim Smith, who leads the team in wins with a 2-3 record, will make the start on Saturday for the Setters. Matt Reilly will get the call on Sunday. Reilly is 0-4 on the season with a 10.30 ERA.
Miami will counter with three left-handers with J.D. Cockroft going to the mound in the opener on Friday night. Cockroft is 6-2 on the season with a team-low 2.48 ERA. Brandon Camardese will make his 12th start of the season on Saturday after improving to 6-0 on the season with a win over FSU last week. Alex Perez will make his third start of the season on Sunday.
The Hurricanes are still hitting an impressive .307 as a team with shortstop Ryan Braun leading the way with a .359 batting average, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. The pitching staff sports a 4.31 team ERA and is holding opponent hitters to a .259 average.
