Seminoles Edge Hurricanes, 4-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami baseball team fell, 4-2 to second-ranked Florida State in front of a season-high 5,084 fans Friday night at Mark Light Fielid.
The Hurricanes drop to 28-8 on the season, while the Seminoles improve to 35-6.
Hurricanes’ starter J.D. Cockroft (6-1) took the loss going seven innings, giving up eight hits, four runs (four earned), walking two batters, while tying a career high with eight strikeouts. Trent Peterson (7-1) recorded the win for FSU, pitching 7.2 innings, giving up six hits, two runs (two earned), walking three batters with three strikeouts.
FSU got on the scoreboard early in the first inning on a solo home run to left field by Seminole third baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve.
The Hurricanes took the lead in the third inning, 2-1, on a two-out double down the left field line by Ryan Braun, scoring Alex Blanco and Danny Figueroa. Blanco reached on a fielder’s choice and to second base on a walk to Figueroa.
Florida State’s second solo home run of the evening Tony McQuade tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the sixth inning after a 45 minute rain delay.
FSU captured the lead in the eighth inning, 4-2, scoring two runs on one hit. A double down the left-field ling by Blake Balkom scored Jerrod Brown, who lead off the inning with a hit by pitch. A sacrifice fly by Bryan Zech gave the Seminoles the lead scoring Brown from third base.
UM got leadoff singles from Jim Burt and Erick San Pedro in the bottom of the ninth inning, but failed to get them home as Brian Barton’s line drive was snagged in left-center field to end the game.
The Hurricanes and Seminoles will return to the diamond on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for Ron Fraser Bobblehead night at Mark Light Field.
