Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem announces the signing of Brenda Faluade (Katy, TX) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami this fall.
Faluade, a senior at Mayde Creek High School, is considered one of the top long jumpers and triple jumpers in the state of Texas. She selected Miami over the University of Houston.
“Brenda (Faluade) is extremely talented and we expect her to help continue the University’s tradition of quality jumpers,” said Deem. “She is a great addition to our team and we are excited to have her join our program next season.”
Faluade, the 2003 District 19-5A Champion in the long jump (20-00.00) and triple jump (40-02.00), is attempting to qualify for the State Championships for the third consecutive season.
Last season, as a junior, she finished fourth at the State 5A Championships in the long jump (20-01.25) and eighth in the triple jump (38-07.50). As a sophomore she took fifth in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
“I really like the atmosphere around campus,” said Faluade who has career best marks of 20-01.25 in the long jump and 40-03.00 in the triple jump. “I feel I can really excel both athletically and academically at UM.”
In addition to her track accomplishments, Faluade was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball. This past season she served as one of the team captains, earned All-District honors and was named team MVP as an outside hitter.
Faluade is UM’s first recruit of the spring signing period and the second recruit overall to sign with the Hurricanes. Jumper Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem High School) signed with Miami during the early signing period in November.
