Hurricanes in Virginia for Three-Game Series with Cavaliers

The 12th-ranked Miami Hurricanes baseball team will make its first road trip in over a month to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va., on April 11-13.
The three-game series is set to open on Friday, April 11 with a 7 p.m. contest at Davenport Field on the UVA campus. The two teams will play again at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 before closing out the series with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, April 13.
The Hurricanes are 25-6 after taking two of three games from Oral Roberts last weekend. UM is ranked 10th in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches poll and 12th in both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America. Virginia comes into the series unranked with a 20-10 record.
The Cavaliers won one of three games last weekend at 20th-ranked Clemson, winning game two of the series, 4-1.
At home the Cavaliers are undefeated with a 16-0 record at the newly renovated Davenport Field.
With regular starting pitchers Jeff Kamrath and Mike Ballard questionable for the weekend series, Virginia will send right-hander Chris Gale to the mound Friday night and left-hander Andrew Dobies to the hill on Saturday night. The Cavaliers Sunday starter is yet to be determined.
UVA is hitting .310 as a team with 51 doubles, but only 13 home runs. The pitching staff sports a low 2.90 ERA, while holding opponents to a .250 batting average.
There will be a slight change in the Hurricanes’ pitching rotation with Brandon Camardese going to the hill on Saturday, replacing an injured Vince Bongiovanni. Bongiovanni will not make the trip to rest a strained forearm. Junior college transfer Alex Perez will get his first start on Sunday. J.D. Cockroft will start on Friday night.
Miami holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1985 Atlantic Regional in Coral Gables. UM won that game 11-6 and took two of three games at home in 2001.
